What is Longevity Mainz?+
Longevity Mainz is the free Mainz chapter of an international longevity community, open to anyone in the city or the surrounding Rheinhessen area who wants to stay healthy for longer. We meet for talks, workshops and relaxed evenings about healthspan, prevention and biohacking, and every part of that is free. The mix of people reflects the city: students from Johannes Gutenberg University, staff from clinics and labs, founders, and plenty of members with no professional connection to health at all. No fee, no application, no prior knowledge required.
Is Longevity Mainz a longevity club or a health club?+
Club here means people who meet regularly, not a contract and a turnstile. Longevity Mainz charges no membership fee, owns no premises and sells no access to equipment, which is how a private health club or a commercial longevity centre earns its money. Quite a few members hold a gym membership somewhere in Mainz as well, and the two sit together comfortably. Taking part costs nothing, nobody asks what you can lift, and whether you come once a year or every month is entirely up to you.
Is there a longevity center or a health centre in Mainz?+
Mainz has private practices and health centres selling prevention-focused check-ups, and Longevity Mainz is not one of them. We keep no treatment rooms, run no booking system and have nothing on offer, because we are a free community. What we can add is the part the brochures leave out: members who paid for an extended check-up or a body composition scan tend to say quite directly whether the report changed anything for them. The community Spots map lists local addresses so you have somewhere to start looking.
Where can I find a longevity doctor, clinic or preventive medicine practice in Mainz?+
We cannot refer you to anyone, because Longevity Mainz employs no medical staff and provides no treatment. The city does have doctors working with a prevention or longevity focus, from private practices in the Neustadt and Oberstadt to the large public care around the Universitätsmedizin, and quality varies because the field is still young. At meetups people describe their own appointments honestly, which usually tells you more than a website. Our Spots map collects longevity-friendly practices and labs nearby, and for anything genuinely medical your own doctor remains the right first call.
Does Longevity Mainz offer longevity training, coaching or a programme?+
No. There is no programme to book, no coach on our payroll and no training plan with our name on it. Mainz has strength training studios, personal trainers and physiotherapy practices advertising exactly that, several of them around the Hauptbahnhof and towards the river, and members are candid about which ones take the research seriously. What we run instead is the free version of the reasoning: workshops on structuring strength work, why easy-pace endurance sessions keep showing up in the recommendations, and how sleep changes what training gives back.
What longevity events, meetups and biohacking sessions happen in Mainz?+
Three formats carry the Mainz calendar: free meetups built around conversation, evening talks with a speaker who knows the field, and workshops where you actually try the thing. Subjects rotate through sleep, bloodwork, biological age, strength training, nutrition and the supplements that have trial data behind them. When the weather allows, an outdoor get-together such as a picnic in the Volkspark takes the place of an indoor evening. Dates appear on this page, in the events feed and in the Mainz WhatsApp group.
Is Longevity Mainz free?+
Yes, and that covers almost every event as well. Membership costs nothing, there is no premium tier, and nobody follows up three emails later with an offer. If a rare format carries a genuine cost behind it, for example a venue charging entry or a lab charging for a test, the listing says so before you register. The bilingual guides and the biological age tool on this site stay open to anyone with an account, and an account costs nothing either.
How do I join Longevity Mainz?+
Pick whichever route suits you: set up a free account here, join the Mainz WhatsApp group, or come to the next event and introduce yourself. Nothing needs approving and no waiting list exists. Most people end up in WhatsApp, since that is where dates, cancellations and quick questions show up first. The same announcements run on Instagram and LinkedIn if you would rather read along from a distance for a few weeks. Bringing a friend or a colleague is always welcome.
Where can I test my biological age in Mainz (DEXA, VO2max, bloodwork)?+
Mainz and the wider Rhein-Main area offer DEXA body composition scans, VO2max testing and extended blood panels through sports medicine practices, private diagnostic labs and a handful of gyms with proper equipment. None of it runs through us and we take no commission from anyone. Before spending money, the free biological age tool on this site gives you a rough first read from questions you answer at home. Members post prices and outcomes openly, so you can work out in advance which test would tell you something new.
Does Longevity Mainz also cover Wiesbaden and Rheinhessen?+
Yes. The chapter is meant for the whole area around the city, which includes Wiesbaden on the opposite bank and the Rheinhessen towns behind it. Crossing the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke takes minutes, half the region commutes in both directions anyway, and members arrive from Ingelheim, Nieder-Olm, Nierstein or Oppenheim without treating it as a trip. If you searched for a longevity community in Wiesbaden and landed here, this is the free one. Most dates sit in Mainz simply because the connections are best from there.
Where in Mainz do you meet?+
Locations move around rather than sitting in one fixed venue, so an evening can land in the Altstadt near the cathedral, in the Neustadt, or out towards Hartenberg and the university quarter. The exact address is always in the event listing, along with the nearest tram or bus stop. Outdoor formats use the Volkspark or the paths along the Rhine when the season allows. If you know a room in Mainz that would suit a talk or a workshop, just say so in the group.
Is Longevity Mainz connected to the ageing research at the university?+
No. We are an independent community with no institutional tie to any research group. Mainz is a real ageing research location: Johannes Gutenberg University hosts a research network on resilience and longevity, and the Universitätsmedizin has followed a large local cohort for years through the Gutenberg Health Study. Researchers and clinicians do come to our meetups, and when one of them speaks it is as an individual rather than on behalf of an institute. We publish no studies ourselves and represent no university.
