What is Longevity Cologne?

Longevity Cologne is a free, science based community for people who want more healthy years. Ageing research is close to home here. The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing sits in Lindenthal next to the university hospital campus, and the CECAD cluster at the University of Cologne studies why cells cope badly with stress as they get older. None of that belongs to us. It does mean the subject is unusually ordinary to bring up in this city, and Cologne being Cologne, people bring it up.

Our calendar is built from free meetups, expert talks and hands on workshops, with community challenges running alongside for a few weeks at a time. The same practical questions keep returning: what a blood panel really tells you, how to raise VO2max (a measure of how much oxygen you turn into work under load), whether strength training pays off after forty, how sleep quietly decides the rest of your week, and which biohacking claims still stand once somebody pulls up the study. Training questions get a careful hearing in a city that hosts the Deutsche Sporthochschule in Müngersdorf, the only sport university in Germany. Cold exposure has a following too, so ice bath meetups and sauna evenings sit next to the talks through the winter.

Being plain about what we are not: Longevity Cologne is no longevity centre, no clinic, no paid health club and no coaching business with a free first consultation waiting at the end. Membership costs nothing and there is nothing on sale. Cologne meanwhile has a real commercial market, from preventive medicine practices around the inner city to cryotherapy studios, private labs and the fitness and health trade fair that fills the Koelnmesse halls over in Deutz. Members compare notes on all of it, including the parts that were not worth the money. Our community Spots map collects local labs, gyms, studios and longevity friendly practices as a starting point, and we check none of them medically.

Who turns up varies a lot: beginners who read one book and got curious, people who have tracked their own markers for years, clinicians, students, founders and parents fitting an evening in between school runs. Events run mostly in German and switch to English when the room needs it. To start, create a free account, join the Cologne WhatsApp group or simply come to the next event. There is no application and no approval step.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Longevity Cologne?+
Longevity Cologne is the Cologne chapter of an international longevity community, free to join and open to anyone in the Rhineland who wants to stay healthy for longer. We run meetups, expert talks and workshops on healthspan, prevention and evidence based self experiments, and nothing is sold at any of them. People arrive from very different starting points, from someone who began reading about ageing in January to members who have tracked their own markers for years. There is no fee, nothing to apply for and no required background.
Is Longevity Cologne a longevity club or a health club?+
The word club here means the informal kind: people who meet regularly, with no contract, no monthly fee and no premises of our own. A private health club sells access to a gym floor or a spa, and a longevity centre sells check ups and treatments. We do neither. Plenty of members hold a gym membership as well, which sits happily alongside coming to our events. Anyone living in or around Cologne can take part, and nobody gets turned away at the door.
Is there a longevity center in Cologne?+
Yes, Cologne has commercial longevity centres and cryo studios advertising exactly that, and Longevity Cologne is not one of them. We have no treatment rooms, no booking system and no packages. What the community adds is the unfiltered verdict: members who paid for a cold chamber session, a large check up or a recovery programme usually say plainly whether the report changed anything for them. Our Spots map lists local labs, gyms and studios so you have somewhere to begin, though it is a lead rather than a recommendation.
Where can I find a longevity doctor or clinic in Cologne?+
We cannot refer you to a doctor, since Longevity Cologne is a community with no medical staff and no consulting rooms. Cologne does have practices working with a longevity or preventive medicine focus, several around the inner city and the cathedral quarter, alongside functional medicine practitioners and private labs. Quality varies widely in a young field, which is exactly why first hand accounts help. At meetups people say who listened properly and who mostly sold them a panel. For anything clinical, your GP stays the sensible first stop.
Does Longevity Cologne offer longevity consulting or a personal plan?+
No consulting service runs here and nobody will write you a personal plan. Longevity Cologne works peer to peer: the person sitting next to you may have spent two years on their sleep data and will happily show you the spreadsheet, but they are not paid to advise you. Paid longevity consulting does exist in Cologne as a market, and some members have used it and reported back honestly afterwards. If you would rather learn it yourself, the talks, the bilingual guides and the free biological age tool cover the same ground.
Can you recommend a longevity coach in Cologne with a free first consultation?+
We keep no list of coaches and recommend none, because Longevity Cologne is a free community rather than a referral service. Plenty of coaches advertise a free first consultation, in Cologne as anywhere else, and that conversation is normally the opening step of a sales process. Nothing wrong with it, as long as you know what you are walking into. Our events cost nothing at every stage, with no follow up call and no package at the end. Members who have worked with a coach will tell you how it went.
What longevity events, meetups and biohacking sessions happen in Cologne?+
The Cologne calendar runs on free meetups, expert talks and workshops, with community challenges alongside. Themes rotate through bloodwork, sleep, nutrition, strength training, biological age and the supplements that have real trial data behind them. Locations move around the city instead of sitting in one fixed venue, so an evening can land in Ehrenfeld one month and closer to Deutz or the Belgisches Viertel the next. Dates appear on this page, in the events feed, on Meetup and in the Cologne WhatsApp group. Coming on your own is completely normal.
Is Longevity Cologne free?+
Yes, and almost every event is free as well. There is no membership fee, no premium tier and nothing that turns into a paid subscription later on. Now and then an event has an unavoidable cost behind it, an entry ticket or a lab fee, and that is stated in the listing before anyone signs up. Everything else stays open with a free account: the talks, the workshops, the bilingual guides and the biological age tool. We take no commission from anyone either.
How do I join Longevity Cologne?+
Take whichever route suits you: create a free account on this site, join the Cologne WhatsApp group, or turn up at the next event and introduce yourself. Nothing gets screened and nobody sits on a waiting list. The WhatsApp group tends to be the most practical, since dates and last minute changes appear there first. Instagram and Meetup carry the same announcements if you would rather read along quietly for a while. Most people come alone the first time and end up talking to half the room.
Where can I test my biological age in Cologne (DEXA, VO2max, bloodwork)?+
Cologne has a decent spread of options for DEXA body composition scans, VO2max testing and extended blood panels, across sports medicine practices, private labs and a handful of gyms with proper diagnostic kit. We measure nothing ourselves and earn nothing from anyone who does. Our free biological age tool gives you a first rough orientation from a handful of questions at home. Prices and results get compared openly in the group, which stops you paying for a panel that nobody then explains to you.
Where can I try ice baths, cold exposure or sauna in Cologne?+
Cold water has its own following in Cologne, and ice bath meetups and sauna evenings show up in our calendar through the colder months, done in company and at a sensible pace rather than alone in the Rhine. Outside our events the city has an active scene: winter groups gather at lakes just beyond the city limits, the Otto-Maigler-See in Hürth among them, and open air pools such as the Waldbad Dünnwald have hosted ice swimming dates. Cold suits some bodies better than others, so ask a doctor first if your heart or circulation is a question mark.
Does Longevity Cologne cover the wider Rhineland and North Rhine Westphalia?+
In practice yes, the Cologne chapter draws people from the surrounding Rhineland: Bonn, Leverkusen, Bergisch Gladbach and the towns strung along the S-Bahn lines, since the trip is short. North Rhine Westphalia is a large state though, and there are separate chapters in Düsseldorf and Essen, so if one of those is closer to you, start there instead. Anyone further out can still use the bilingual guides, the events feed and the free tools without travelling. You are welcome at another chapter's events too.
