What is Longevity Essen?

Longevity Essen is a free, science-based community for people in Essen and the Ruhr area who want to stay healthy for longer. The Essen chapter of Longevity Cities is for anyone curious about movement, breathing, sleep, nutrition and clear-headed living, no medical background needed.

The chapter opens on Saturday 3 October 2026 with Ruck, Breathe & Connect, its kick-off meetup: a short introduction to longevity and healthspan, a ruck walk (walking with a weighted backpack), breathing practice and time to talk. On 22 November 2026 follows Bring the Trash Out, an evening on minimalism as a longevity practice: what if the next step is something you remove? Both take place at a private practice on Annastraße in Essen.

Joining is free: create an account, join the Essen WhatsApp group linked on this page and register via the calendar. Longevity Essen is a community, not a longevity clinic, even when a meetup is hosted at a practice. People come here to learn, compare notes on tests and check-ups and ask experts their questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Longevity Essen?+
Longevity Essen is the Essen chapter of Longevity Cities, a free and non-commercial community for healthy ageing that is kicking off in October 2026. It brings together people in Essen and the Ruhr area who want to know what really supports a long, healthy life. The first meetups combine science, movement, breathing and conversation. Anyone can join, no scientific background required.
Is there a longevity clinic or longevity doctor in Essen?+
Longevity Essen is not a clinic or a doctor's practice, even though its first meetups are hosted at a private practice on Annastraße: we are a free community and do not diagnose or treat. Private longevity check-ups in Germany typically cost roughly 1,500 to 2,500 euros without imaging. Ask for the full itemised price including follow-up appointments and supplements before you commit, and remember that statutory insurance does not pay.
Where can I test my biological age in Essen?+
You can choose between an epigenetic test by post (roughly 130 to 400 euros), an extended blood panel through your GP or a private lab (roughly 150 to 450 euros) and fitness markers like VO2max and grip strength. No single number tells the whole story, so combine a few markers and repeat them over time. The free face-age test, VO2max calculator and grip-strength test on this site are a low-cost start.
What longevity events are there in Essen?+
Two Longevity Essen meetups are on the calendar. Ruck, Breathe & Connect, the chapter kick-off, is on 3 October 2026, and Bring the Trash Out, on minimalism as a longevity practice, follows on 22 November 2026. Both take place at a private practice at Annastraße 35 to 37 in Essen. More dates get added to the calendar on this page and announced in the WhatsApp group.
What is Ruck, Breathe & Connect in Essen?+
Ruck, Breathe & Connect is the kick-off meetup of Longevity Essen on 3 October 2026. It combines a short introduction to longevity and healthspan with a ruck walk, which simply means walking with a weighted backpack, plus breathing practice and conversation. Check the listing for what to bring, start with a light load and skip the weight if you have back or joint issues.
What is Bring the Trash Out about?+
Bring the Trash Out on 22 November 2026 treats minimalism as a longevity practice. The question behind it: what if your next intervention is something you remove rather than add, in a world of more training, more supplements, more data and more apps? Expect a thoughtful evening on time, energy and attention, and a good fit if optimisation fatigue sounds familiar.
Is there a longevity community near Bochum and the Ruhr area?+
Yes, Longevity Essen serves the central Ruhr area, and neighbouring cities such as Bochum, Mülheim and Gelsenkirchen are a short train ride from Essen. Meetups are hosted in Essen, and you can follow dates in the calendar on this page. If you would like a gathering closer to you, say so in the Essen WhatsApp group.
Where can I find a biohacking and healthy-living community in Essen?+
Longevity Essen is a free place in Essen to talk about biohacking and healthy living with an evidence filter. It looks at the basics first, movement, breathing and sleep, and is just as open to the argument that less can be more. Questions and ideas go into the Essen WhatsApp group linked on this page.
How can I meet new people in Essen?+
Longevity Essen is a good way to meet people in Essen who want more than small talk: the kick-off on 3 October 2026 is built around a shared walk, breathing and conversation, so nobody has to break the ice alone. You can come on your own, and all adults are welcome regardless of age or fitness level.
What does Longevity Essen cost and how do I join?+
Joining is free: create an account, join the Essen WhatsApp group linked on this page and register for Ruck, Breathe & Connect or Bring the Trash Out through the calendar. Costs, available places and equipment such as a backpack are stated in each listing, and both meetups are announced in English. Anything you eat, drink or book yourself is paid separately.
