What is Longevity Heidelberg?+
Longevity Heidelberg is a free community for people in and around Heidelberg who want to understand what actually extends healthy lifespan, and then try some of it. We meet in person for talks, workshops and meetups, with community challenges running between the dates. The tone fits the city: questions are welcome, sources get asked for, and nothing is sold from the front of the room. Medical students, physicians, engineers and people with no background at all end up in the same circle. Taking part costs nothing.
Is Longevity Heidelberg a longevity club or a health club?+
It is a club roughly in the way a running group is a club: free, informal, no contract. We are not a private health club and not a gym, so there is no membership fee, no reception desk and no treatment room anywhere in Heidelberg. The city does have paid longevity offerings, including a commercial club concept and medical centers, and those are separate businesses with no connection to us. What you get from this chapter is the people, the dates and the evidence behind the talks.
Is there a longevity center in Heidelberg?+
Yes, Heidelberg has commercial longevity centers, and we are not one of them. Private practices in the city advertise medical longevity programmes built around extended blood panels, body composition and follow-up consultations, and at least one describes itself as the first medical longevity center in Heidelberg. We take no position on any of them and receive nothing from anyone. Members do compare experiences openly at meetups, which tends to be more useful than a brochure, and the community Spots map shows what exists nearby.
Where can I find a longevity doctor, clinic or treatment in Heidelberg?+
For medical care the right address is a doctor, not us, because we provide none. Heidelberg is unusually well supplied here thanks to the university hospital in the Neuenheimer Feld, and several private practices in the Altstadt and Bergheim now run preventive programmes with spiroergometry, hormone panels and micronutrient work. Our Spots map lists longevity-friendly practices, labs and studios across the region without medically vetting them. Asking at an event helps too, since someone in the room has usually already been.
Is there a longevity store or shop in Heidelberg?+
Retail longevity shops do exist in Heidelberg, and we run none of them. Searches for a longevity store here usually lead to commercial concepts selling supplements, recovery devices and functional drinks, which is a different business from what this chapter does. We sell nothing, take no commission and have no product line, so you can ask us about a supplement without being pitched one. For an unsentimental read on whether a gadget earns its price, bring it to a meetup.
What longevity events, meetups and biohacking sessions happen in Heidelberg?+
Expect meetups, expert talks and workshops, plus challenges the community works through together over a few weeks. Themes stay practical: sleep, nutrition, strength training, recovery, bloodwork and biological age, with biohacking treated as a topic rather than a belief system. Regular sport formats such as group runs, cold plunges or sauna evenings are not part of the Heidelberg calendar at the moment, though suggestions from members do get tried. Dates appear in the events feed and in the Heidelberg WhatsApp group.
Is Longevity Heidelberg free?+
Yes, and it is not a trial period. Membership costs nothing, almost every event is free, and no sales pitch waits at the end of a talk. Once in a while a format carries a small cost passed straight through, for example when a venue or a lab charges us, and that is stated on the event page before you sign up. We are not financed by reselling your attention either. Nobody has to buy anything to belong here.
How do I join Longevity Heidelberg?+
Three routes work equally well: create a free account on the site, join the Heidelberg WhatsApp group, or simply turn up at the next event. Nobody vets you, there is no waiting list and no member has to refer you. If you would rather read along first, follow the chapter page or Instagram until something looks worth your evening. Arriving alone is completely normal here, since most people did exactly that the first time.
Where can I test my biological age in Heidelberg (DEXA, VO2max, bloodwork)?+
Testing in Heidelberg splits into three routes: a lab or practice for bloodwork, sports medicine or performance diagnostics for VO2max and spiroergometry, and radiology or body-composition providers for DEXA. All three exist in the Rhine-Neckar area, partly because so much clinical infrastructure sits here. Our Spots map lists places members have used themselves, and our free biological-age tool gives you a rough bearing before you spend money. Any single biological-age number stays an estimate rather than a verdict.
Does Longevity Heidelberg cover Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and the rest of the Rhine-Neckar area?+
Yes. The chapter is anchored in Heidelberg while the catchment stretches across Rhine-Neckar, so people travel in from Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, Weinheim, Speyer and the wine villages along the Bergstrasse. Public transport makes that workable, since most events sit within reach of Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof and we try to pick times that still allow a train home. Living further out and wanting something closer is a fair request. Say so in the group, because chapters usually start when somebody asks.
Which language are Longevity Heidelberg events held in?+
Mostly German, with English used whenever someone in the room needs it, which in Heidelberg happens often. The city carries a large international research and student population, so switching languages halfway through a discussion is routine and nobody finds it awkward. Speakers sometimes present in English by default, and slides are frequently English even when the talk is not. Everything written on the site exists in both languages. New to Germany and worried about following along? Come anyway and mention it at the start.
How is Longevity Heidelberg connected to ageing research in Heidelberg?+
We read the research, we do not produce it. Heidelberg is one of the denser biomedical places in Europe, with the university hospital and the DKFZ in the Neuenheimer Feld, EMBL up on the Königstuhl, and the university's Netzwerk Alternsforschung studying ageing across disciplines. Some members study or work in that environment. None of those institutions runs this chapter or endorses it. In practice it means that when somebody claims at a meetup that a study says something, a person who has read it is usually sitting there.
